No matter where you live, homelessness is an inescapable issue. Invisible: Stories of Homelessnessfollows individuals in Lansing, Michigan who are currently or recently homeless, and examines their lives both on and off the streets. With so many preconceived ideas about homelessness and its causes, this film aims to give an objective look at those affected by homelessness. We listen to their stories, and get a glimpse into the Lansing homeless community.
Team Statement
This is a documentary about some “invisible place” that we find in the greater Lansing area. Homelessness is not something that belongs to a certain group of people; because surprisingly, everyone can be homeless. We made this documentary to help people hear the stories from the people who struggled, or are still struggling with homelessness. We set out to make our film about one thing: stories of those that are presently homeless and those recently housed. There are so many different opinions, viewpoints and people within the homeless community. We realized that centering our film on one or even a handful of issues would ignore many other individuals with their own unique stories. We hope that this film will humanize homeless men, women and children both in our capitol and throughout the state, country and world.
